Abstract

Subject of master's degree work: "Risk minimisation of coal and gas emissions developing Livensky coal-bed in while M.I. Kalinin mine of "Donetskugol"

The coal-mining industry of Ukraine faces a challenging task of securing the national economy with sufficient supply of technological raw materials, energy and household fuel. Donetsk basin occupis a special place in fulfilling this task as it is one of the main suppliers of the most valuable coking coals for the metallurgical industry of the South and Centre of the country. However, exploitation of many coal-beds of this coal basin is complicated by sudden coal and gas outbursts. Further development of coal-mining industry in Donbass depends on the successful solution of the problem of coal-bed degassing and treating sudden outbursts.

Nowadays gas-dynamic phenomena in coal mines are some of the most complicated problems of coal-mining. The number of outbursting coal-beds has grown due to working at much deeper levels, and coal and gas outbursts became more varied.

Exploitation of outbursting coal-seams significantly slows down the coal-mining process owing to a large number of anti-outburst measures, which, in some cases, turn to be ineffective. Measures aimed at prevention of outbursts and elimination of their consequences negatively influence not only technica-economic activities but safety conditions and industrial traumatism in mines.

This master’s degree work analyses exploitation experience of outbursting coal-beds, as well as the number of coal and gas outbursts under shaking explosions. One of the tasks, which has not been finally solved is the necessity of defining the rational length of forestalling of the production line drift under the compact system of exploitation (variant: face - drift) of the outbursting coal-bed h10 Livensky in M.I. Kalinin mine. This master’s degree work defines further research directions.

Solving the problem of risk minimisation of coal and gas outbursts, I carried out the analysis of the coal-bed exploitation. The analysis is carried out for the first and fourth eastern faces of the eastern inclination in the rock for the last 10 years of their exploitation.

According to academician A.A. Skochinsky’s description of outbursts occurrence, this now is common knowledge, the higher the tension of the coal-bed is, the higher outbursts intensity must be. But in practice, there are doubts as for the origin of outbursts, since the average intensity either essentially decreases or increases under the growth of tension. As a result we have good cause to identify the direction of further research.

It is important to pay special attention to some other problems. For example, during coal outbursts the process of sheeting of the coal-bed roof is inevitable. In these places the danger of rock falling inevitably grows, i.e., traumatism caused by the rock falling grows too.

This master’s degree work has two possible conclusions which can be considered as the objectives for undertaking further research:

to define more accurately the correspondence of the origin of outbursts under shaking explosions to previously generally accepted, the so-called, “classical” diagram of rock pressure;

evaluation of the definition of the predictable correspondence of coal and gas outbursts intensity in the production line drift of the second eastern face using exploitation experience of the first and fourth eastern faces.
